Are you pursuing certification in Special Education EC–12? The Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) has announced a major change:
Beginning September 1, 2025, the current TExES Special Education EC–12 (#161) exam will be replaced by the new TExES Special Education Specialist EC–12 (#186) exam.
What This Means for You:
Internships Starting On or Before September 1, 2025: If your internship begins on or before this date, you should continue preparing for the TExES Special Education EC–12 (#161) exam.
Internships Starting After September 1, 2025: You’ll need to prepare for the new TExES Special Education Specialist EC–12 (#186) exam, as the #161 exam will no longer be offered.
